Mark's hip is doing wonderful, but his tummy is not.  He's been in the ER twice in three days and now again he is nauseated today.  We are thinking now that possibly it is the blood thinner shot we are giving him to prevent the clots.  It's the only different thing that he's doing since he left the hospital.  I'm going to try my best to get in touch with the surgeon today.  The ER doesn't seem to be able to provide a solution.  They get him feeling better while there, but when he gets home (the next day after the shot) he's ill again.  DRAT!

Mark & Sandy. I just asked my wife if she felt nauseated after the shots in the belly and she said no. She just got sick because it was me that was giving her the shots. She did say that it could be the  pain killing meds that he's taking...if he's taking pain meds.

Well that stomach flu has been going around here big time the entire family had it except me but it only lasted one bad day and two more not feeling so good.

Guess it is not that though, all the pain meds seem it be hard on your stomach.

My daughter took the blood thinner shots in her stomach for eight months when she was carrying her son she never seemed to have any stomach discomfort but everyone is different.

Thank you pipeman.  I looked up on the internet and it said that one of the side effects of Lovenox was nausea.  I have an appointment today with the doctor for him to see what is up.  The ER is no fun place, especially with all of this H1N1 going around.  The ER's are full and the waits are extremely long.  First time we were in there 8 hours, this last time it was 6 hours.  Guess we'll see what our family doc can do.  He is not on any pain meds.  His hip is not giving him any problems at all.  It's really a shame about his stomach because his hip is doing great.

A common side effect of ALL meds is nausea but some are more likely to cause it than others. One pain med that is notorious for nausea is morphine. Hope the nausea clears. I thik that the nausea is worse than the pain for making you miserable.

Maybe it's left over from the hospital food?

Took Mark to the family doc today and he said that Mark most likely has an ulcer from all of the meds from three surgeries in less than a year. Doc put him on Nexium and coated aspirin. Doc took him off of his arthritis pills and the blood thinner. We'll see how he does. So far, so good since he's been home, but he's been eating a much more bland diet.  Thanks for your concern.

Otherwise, he's speeding around the house hardly using his cane!  It's just amazing how well he is doing with this new hip.  No pain at all with his new hip he says and he's on no pain meds at the moment.  It will be two weeks since his surgery this coming Thursday.

Mark's tummy was upset last night and again this morning, but at least he's been holding things down.  The doc had put him onto a regular diet with no restrictions after the surgery.  Now they have told him to eat a more soft food diet and avoid the spicy stuff.  It will take several days for the Nexium to kick in I'm sure, so he will just have to watch what he eats and wait.  Time will tell.....
